Planning to Start the M&K Food Reset Three Days Before Thanksgiving (No Joke.)

In Life by LauraLeave a Comment

In a flurry of insanity and crazed motivation, I decided to start the M&K Reset. …Monday. You know, the same Monday that falls right before the Thanksgiving after an election, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, my second family’s Xmas and Cyber Monday? Yea. That Monday.

Here’s the thing: I’m done putting it off “until next Monday.” I constantly say “eh, if the timing was better.” Or, “you know, I just have a lot of stressful stuff coming up.” Newsflash: the timing is probably never going to be perfect and there will definitely always be stressful stuff. Being one that definitely copes with chaos through food, I’m unlikely to ever feel like it’s a great time to do this. So, yea. Monday.

Why Monday? Well, my blender was delivered yesterday.

Today, I’m releasing all of the shitty food from my pantry and into the trash.

Tomorrow, I’m grocery shopping and batch cooking.

Then, Monday – I feast.

Monday through Wednesday – I’ve got this. Thursday will be the single hardest day of my life. I love mashed potatoes with the fire of a billion suns. Being that I’m not married or even dating at the current moment, I can legitimately say that mashed potatoes, especially with grandma’s gravy, take second place in my life only to my dog. And even that is a bold toss up most days. Inevitably, grandma will prep a GIANT dish of potatoes with a second giant dish of gravy as a sparkling beacon of joy at one end of the Thanksgiving buffet.

I’ve been known to eat them cold. Because they’re awesome. My soul hurts already.

Speaking of Thanksgiving – did you see how the election went down? Here’s where I should note that my family and I stand on dramatically opposite sides of the fence. I love them – they’re family, after all. But on politics and society, we don’t agree on much. Except for a good Cabernet. We agree on Cabernet. So there’s a lot of that typically happening – for the safety and sanity of us all.

Then Friday – I’ll rise and shine early with my aunt, cousin and mom to go xmas shopping. The day is typically filled with fast food and crap snacks.

And Saturday. Well, Saturday is a gem of an event. My extended family rents a party bus for xmas each year. Then we tour rural Kansas visiting dive bars, drinking until we find happiness, swapping obnoxious gifts, playing loud music and spreading some fucking holiday cheer to every unwilling participant we see. It’s like modern-day caroling…if we were all still in college and members of some absolutely insane wannabe fraternity.

And then, I’ll work. Small businesses + Internet are what I do. So it’s one of the bigger weekends for that.

Honestly, after 4-5 days of eating and drinking and eating and eating with drinks – I never feel good. I always feel far from great, actually. But it’s social and it’s tradition and it’s family. Well – that’s not really a good enough excuse anymore. So, I’m starting the reset on Monday.

If I somehow survive – and, much more impressively, manage to willpower my way through the reset – I’ll arrive at the single most exhausting Tuesday of my year. On which, I actually need to be able to work and function as a normal human because #clients and #businessownership and #adultingMFs. In the back of my mind, that will somehow – hopefully – be significantly easier having not completely wrecked my body for a week. I really do hope.

So, that’s it. That’s my current state of planning ahead – simply acknowledging that all of this madness exists and I’m going to have to prep food and eat that food while not eating everything else. And still work out. Don’t forget that part – I should definitely hit the mat 3-4 times in that stretch.

Send me you spare good juju.
