KC Restaurant Week: Brio Tuscan Grille

In Life by LauraLeave a Comment

Yesterday, Kansas City kicked off it’s one and only KC Restaurant Week. Quite possible the single most delicious week on either side of the state line, KC Restaurant Week pairs the tastiest of the tasty with amazing lunch and dinner meals and limited-time menus. You can’t miss it.

So, of course, I dove in as soon as I possibly could.

My team and I took advantage of the absolutely gorgeous Spring day that popped up on Friday to walk to Brio Tuscan Grille on the Plaza for lunch. On my final day of a clean-eating challenge, I knew eating in a restaurant could be rough, but I was ridiculously pleased to find that their restaurant week menu was completely farm-to-table with reasonably healthy selections.

It took a bit to settle — each of their 4 entrees sounded absolutely amazing — but I finally decided on a field greens salad and the Cassolet:

White bean casserole with Campo Lindo Chicken leg & thigh, sliced Italian sausage & vegetables in a rich chicken broth. Served with grilled sour dough bread.

The field greens landed in front of me decorated in beautiful diced tomatoes, pine nuts and splashed with balsamic vinaigrette. It wasn’t fancy, but tasted fresh and delicious — not at all disappointed. While the salad portion was plenty for a full lunch, I still couldn’t wait for the main course.

And was it shockingly more delicious than I had expected. When it arrived, the entire table was immediately jealous of my order — a beautiful stew topped with a chicken leg and thigh along with two slices of bread.

In the interest of not completely ruining my clean eating efforts, I ditched the bread and chicken skin immediately. Honestly, though, the meal needed neither as far as I’m concerned.

The stew radiated a warm tomato flavor — one I imagine would be perfect for a chilly night next to the fireplace. It was dotted with delicious smokey sausage, complete with a perfect sear to the edges. Together, the flavors were phenomenal.

I used my fork to shred some of the chicken, trying it both in and out of the stew. Alone, it had a buttery flavor that I didn’t much care for compared to the rest of the course. However, its tender and juicy texture made it an excellent addition none-the-less.

Overall, the lunch was excellent. More than enough food for a single meal and definitely left me feeling much too full. Absolutely unbeatable ringing in under $17 with tax.
