Swatch + Spackle needed a new brand for the upcoming launch of their consumer-facing interior design business. While the company creates affordable design plans for home remodelers (B2B), they wanted an energetic, fun personality to introduce affordable interior design to the masses. We achieved this quirky and playful look with an imperfect circular swatch in the background of the logo and a rougher spackle-type smear in the foreground. The sweeping motion of the line adds momentum and energy while being pretty free-flowing. Add in the chunky imperfect logotype and you get a very experimental, project-minded logo that is a perfect reflection of the DIY movement.
While the brand kit with this one is pretty limited – we layered the logotype with a bold, capped sans that is, honestly, perfection on a t-shirt. Follow that up with the simplicity of Open Sans Light in the body copy. I also took inspiration from my favorite home reno texture – Terrazzo – to create a series of flowing, color-blocked shapes that set the tone for backgrounds, display ads, cover photos and more. We’ve barely scratched the surface with this kit but it’s already a powerhouse of fun and funky.
