Get (or Give) More While Getting Fit

In Life by LauraLeave a Comment

placeholder-small2After all the time spent busting your ass in the gym, it sometimes feels as though you should be entitled to something other than just getting fit. I mean seriously, an “I went to the gym and all I got were these abs” tee would probably cut it but why stop there?

earndit

Earndit has been a staple among my motivators since some Garmin coworkers introduced me to it a few years ago. It remains one of the best in my book, mostly because it’s so damn easy. Sign up, connect your GPS or activity-tracked fitness accounts and start earning credit. This site automatically imports your workout data to reward you with points for product discounts, samples or to donate to charities and causes. Note that a lot of the rewards are hit a miss and the charities seem to be the way to go most of the time. It works with a number of apps and devices including Nike+, Garmin, MapMyFitness, Foursquare, RunKeeper, FitBit, EveryTrail, BodyMedia, Endomondo, Omron and Moves, so you’re free to workout as you already do without adding yet another gadget.

Steps with Balance

Who knew that Walgreens wants to pay you to be a healthier person? That’s right, free money! If you’re a bit sidewalk-challenged, like myself, don’t worry – the program has very little to do with literal balance or coordination. Stumble, crawl, walk, run or bike your way to store credit on your Walgreens Balance Rewards account. While you can manually enter your workouts, the program also works with FitBit, BodyMedia or Withings accounts – but not with Chrome. Try Firefox instead.

Charity Miles

Prove your selflessness while flexing, grunting and staring at yourself in the gym mirrors. Raise money and awareness for one of 25 charities while walking, running or cycling with your phone. Show your support for Stand Up 2 Cancer, Ironman Foundation, United Nations Foundation, Achilles International, RED to benefit The Global Fund, Partnership for a Healthier America, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Autism Speaks, The Nature Conservancy, ASPCA, Wounded Warrior Project, Feeding America, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Michael J. Fox Foundation or several others. This one is available in the App Store or on Google Play.

Gym-Pact

If money is a macho motivator for you, Gym-Pact may be just what you need. Check in at the gym, track outdoor workouts via RunKeeper or workout at work and home with the GymPact Anywhere app. Don’t work out? You’ll literally pay the price. But give it your all and you could walk away from this deal with some nice abs and a wallet full of cash. And a date. Dinner’s on you, sir.
