Web Designer Not Web Designing

In Design, Visual by LauraLeave a Comment

My last wearable design is so far in the past that I can’t honestly tell you how long it’s been since I’ve had to bust out my embroidery know-how. What I can tell you is that designing is bike-riding-like. Apparently, you don’t forget it – at least not all of it anyway.

Diving into my new job last July, I tackled an event logo design for one of our company’s channels. The client had an old, low-res photo of a mask but we all knew that wouldn’t do much good for an embroidered product – so the goal was set to recreate the mask as a more useful vector.

With the photo in hand, I dodged my usual sketch process and jumped straight into tracing in Illustrator. A couple of days and a dozen masks later, a design was born.

The graphic returned to me today in the form of a sweet jacket. I’m actually, for maybe the first time in my career, not embarrassed for the people that had to wear my design. In fact, I might even wear this one myself.
