KC Local Week: Wear Your City on Your Sleeve

In Content, Design by Laura

One day of celebrating our local businesses simply isn’t enough. Thankfully, for KC Local Week, we have 7. Like any school spirit week should have taught you, what you wear can be an exciting way to show your pride. And while we aren’t quite ready for a KC Pajama Day, the crew at Prettyography came up with a few tips for sneaking some ‘local’ into your wardrobe.

At the intersection of Roanoke and Westport Roads is the one and only, Normal Human. I fell in love with these shirts when they were sold out of a tiny, hidden shop in Mission — and man, they’ve only gotten better with the expanded space in Westport. The shop’s selection of screened t-shirts, tanks and raglans offers a quirky top for every KC enthusiast and even a few bonus designs that are sure to get a laugh, or at least a confused eyebrow raise.

The Bunker

Just a hop, skip and jump down Westport Road, you’ll discover The Bunker. While this shop carries a whole world of awesome, many locals know it for it’s diverse collection of KC T’s. It’s famed KCMO shirts come in a range of color combos and you’ll find a few stacks of Charlie Hustle tops to round out the t-shirt tables. Be sure to sneak down to the shoe cellar for some great finds. Even if the shoes aren’t made in KC, that room is full of foot treasure and it’s generally an awesome feature of the local shop.

Frankly Basic

A bit more high-style, Frankly Basic boutiques in Leawood and Crestwood are great locations to find trendy city-inspired t-shirts and tanks for women. The latest in their collection: red Chiefs-esque tops and blue crown town v-necks for celebrating the home teams. Plus, when you purchase two regular priced items within the shop, you can snag a fantastic red and gold “I <3 KC” canvas tote to carry home your finds. Take a peek inside the shop in our latest spotlight.

While Charlie Hustle is technically a t-shirt brand that appears in several local shops, its symbol has become so iconic to KC that we can’t possibly leave it off our list of t-shirt pride. The well-known KC Heart shirts by Charlie Hustle are just one of the many Kansas City-inspired shirts you can find by the brand in stores and online. In a range of color combos representing local teams, events and fundraising collector’s editions — these shirts are a great way to wear your KC-loving heart on your sleeve. Snag these great tops at awesome local shops like Westside Storey in KCMO — where you’ll also find some other sweet T’s, antiques and products by local makers. They’ve also got a sweet collection of our next KC clothing must-have…

Sock 101

And here, my friends, I give you socks. While t-shirts are a natural tie to KC Local Week’s T-shirt Tuesday, you don’t have to abandon all hope if a casual T just won’t cut it for your workday. Sock 101 makes a fantastic collection of Kansas City socks in various patterns and colors, and each is the perfect solution for showing that the city is part of your sole. We’re a little partial to the Visit KC version, but you’ll also find KC Heart patterns in light blue and royal blue, crown town socks, blue and gold stripes and more.
