Look Inside the Logo Development Process with the FindWhat Logo Mark

You guys have been loving the behind-the-scenes looks at my creative process and I couldn’t be happier to share them with you. After years of designing, I can’t even explain the collections of sketches and designs just building up on my hard drives. It’s really fun to see old projects like this logo development process sneak out for a peek!

The FindWhat logo redesign really came out of nowhere. We had a website built and were running some user tests on it, but no one had ever given it any design love. The team wasn’t ready to commit to a full visual overhaul, but I convinced them to let me play with the logo to get things moving in a better direction.

The first step of the logo development process was to determine what type of mark would be the best representation of the website’s function. Users could search, compare and shop products from across the Internet — helping them to find whatever it was that they wanted at a reasonable price. We wanted to emphasize a few things:

  • the act of finding
  • products or shopping
  • affordability

I went to town on the sketches (like I do) and eventually came up with a concept that melded a GPS pinpoint with price tag. Finding. Shopping. I liked where it was heading and took the sketch into Adobe Illustrator to see it come to life.

Tracing and tweaking, I really started to love the unique but recognizable impact the mark had. After a round of font exploration, I selected a series of cool, trustworthy blues to set the direction for the new brand’s color palette.

With some custom adjustments to the ligatures in the FindWhat type, the finished logo was entirely custom. It was a perfect representation of the website’s service and gave the site a great step in a new branded direction.
